Last year the District provided more than 3,700 million gallons of reclaimed water to its customers across the valley.
Uses
Reclaimed water has been carefully treated and is ready for use in a variety of applications including:
Irrigation
Reclaimed water is the right water to use for irrigation of large turf areas. By using this renewable resource, we save our drinking water for its intended purpose — drinking. Throughout the valley there are many areas where this water can be used for irrigation including:
Golf Courses The Water Reclamation District currently supplies five community golf courses with reclaimed water for use in irrigating tee, fairway and green areas and the surrounding landscape. The higher nutrient levels in the reclaimed water mean that course operators don't need to add as much fertilizer to keep these areas green.
Parks Since the summer of 2005, the playing fields and landscape at Silver Bowl Park have been irrigated using reclaimed water provided by the Clark County Water Reclamation District. Watch for our Reclaimed Water signs on all facilities using reclaimed water.
Schools The Water Reclamation District has recently begun discussions with the Clark County School District to use reclaimed water on playing fields and landscape areas at selected schools.
Landscape Areas The landscape at each of our treatment facilities is irrigated with reclaimed water.
Power Generation Stations At a number of power generation stations in our valley, reclaimed water is used as a coolant for the generators. This is the oldest use of reclaimed water in the valley, with our first customer coming online in 1946.
Dust Control In certain areas, reclaimed water is available to contractors for dust control during earthmoving, grading and construction activities.
